heal.abstract	Αντικείμενο της παρούσας διπλωματικής είναι τα ζητήματα γύρω από την έννοια του συνόρου και τις ερμηνείες του, σχολιάζοντας τις αφηγήσεις και τα βιώματα των ίδιων υποκειμένων της μετανάστευσης, που βρίσκονται χωρικά εγκλωβισμένα στο νησί της Λέσβου. Λαμβάνονται υπόψη οι πολιτικές της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης στη διαχείριση του προσφυγικού ζητήματος, με επίκεντρο την ενίσχυση του ελέγχου των ευρωπαϊκών συνόρων και τις πρόσφατες νομοθετικές προτάσεις για κλειστά κέντρα κράτησης σε συνοριακούς κόμβους/περάσματα. Η εργασία εστιάζει στα σύνορα της ανατολικής Ευρώπης και πιο συγκεκριμένα στη συνοριακή ζώνη της Λέσβου. Παρουσιάζει τον μακροχρόνιο εγκλωβισμό των αιτούντων άσυλο στο νησί της Λέσβου από το 2000, καθώς και τις αλλαγές που επήλθαν κατά τη διάρκεια της «προσφυγικής κρίσης» από το 2015 και μετέπειτα, για να επιχειρήσει να εξετάσει [την έννοια του συνόρου με βάση] τα «νέα» δεδομένα – ιδίως από το καλοκαίρι του 2019 και μέχρι σήμερα. Στη διάρκεια αυτής της πιο πρόσφατης περιόδου συνεχίζεται η διάσχιση των συνόρων, μεγεθύνεται ο προσφυγικός πληθυσμός στα κέντρα κράτησης, αλλάζουν οι διαδικασίες ασύλου και διευρύνεται η πρακτική επαναπροωθήσεων, ενώ παράλληλα εντείνεται η ξενοφοβική ρητορική τόσο από τοπικούς δρώντες όσο και από θεσμικούς φορείς.	el
heal.abstract	The present thesis explores the concept of “border” and its multiple interpretations, building upon the narratives and experiences of the people on the move who are spatially trapped on the island of Lesvos. It takes into account the EU policies on asylum and migration management, centring around the strengthening of the EU’s external borders’ control and the recent proposals for closed detention centres in border hubs/corridors. This thesis focuses on the EU’s eastern frontiers and, in particular, the border area of Lesvos. It presents the protracted entrapment of asylum seekers on the island of Lesvos since the year 2000, as well as the changes occurred from the 2015 “refugee crisis” onwards, with a view to examine the concept of “border” in light of the more recent circumstances – particularly from the summer of 2019 until today. During the aforementioned most recent period, border crossings continue to take place and the refugee population in reception centres has been growing, whilst asylum procedures are continuously amended and the practice of ‘push-backs’ is becoming widespread; in parallel, xenophobic rhetoric has been increasingly used both from local and institutional actors.	en
