heal.abstract	Αντικείμενο της παρούσας ερευνητικής εργασίας αποτελεί η αναζήτηση του ρόλου του μπαλκονιού στην αστική συνθήκη της Αθήνας, ως χαρακτηριστικό δομικό και μορφολογικό στοιχείο της πόλης. Η έρευνα επικεντρώνει το ενδιαφέρον της στην ανάγνωση του αστικού τρόπου διαβίωσης και της σχέσης του με τον υπαίθριο βίο και την πόλη. Αφού γίνει αναφορά στη μεσογειακή κουλτούρα, αποσαφηνίζεται η αξία του υπαίθριου και ημιυπαιθριου χώρου στην λαϊκή ανώνυμη αρχιτεκτονική. Φτάνοντας στην Αθήνα, θα εξεταστεί η εξέλιξη του υπαίθριου χώρου-αυλής από τα παλιά αθηναϊκά σπίτια μέχρι τις σύγχρονες πολυκατοικίες. Αφού ο υπαίθριος χώρος έχει μετακινηθεί στα μπαλκόνια και στα ρετιρέ, θα μελετήσουμε το νέο του ρόλο ως ένα αστικό κατώφλι μεταξύ κατοικίας και πόλης, το οποίο μπορεί επίσης να αποτελέσει χώρο κοινωνικοποίησης των κατοίκων. Στη συνέχεια, μεθοδολογικά ακολουθείται μια βιωματική προσέγγιση καταγραφής και ανάλυσης των μπαλκονιών σε τέσσερις διαφορετικές χωρικές κλίμακες της πόλης. Ως περιοχή μελέτης επιλέγεται η πυκνοκατοικημένη γειτονιά της Κυψέλης, εστιάζοντας σταδιακά σε ένα συγκεκριμένο δρόμο (οδό Κυκλάδων) και τέλος στους εξώστες δυο ενδεικτικών διαμερισμάτων. Επιχειρείται έτσι η ανάγνωση της Αθήνας από έξω προς τα μέσα, καταγράφοντας το μπροστά μέτωπο της πόλης για την κατανόηση τόσο της δομής, της μορφής και της λειτουργίας των εξωστών όσο και της ίδιας της κατοικίας πίσω από αυτούς. Τέλος, εξάγονται συμπεράσματα για την σχέση των κατοίκων με το «έξω» στο νέο μοντέλο κατοίκησης. Παράλληλα γίνεται αναφορά στην πανδημία και τις συνθήκες εγκλεισμού, που επανάφεραν τα μπαλκόνια ξανά στην επικαιρότητα και μετέφεραν προσωρινά την έννοια του δημόσιου χώρου σε αυτά.	el
heal.abstract	This thesis explores the role of the balcony in the urban condition of Athens, as a characteristic structural and morphological element of the city. The study is mainly focused on the reading of the urban living environment in its relationship with outdoor life and city space. At first, a reference is made on the Mediterranean culture and the value of the outdoor and semi-outdoor space in traditional architecture. In the city of Athens, now the study examines the evolution of the outdoor space-yard, from the old Athenian houses, up to the modern apartment buildings. There, it appears that the outdoor living space has moved to the balconies and for this, we will study its new role as an urban threshold between the apartment and the city, that can be an area of social interaction between the residents. Subsequently, the research follows an experiential observational approach that documents and analyses the balconies in four different urban scales. It uses as a case study the densely populated area of Kypseli, and gradually focuses on one particular street (Kykladon str) and finally on specific balconies of two typical apartments. Through this approach, the research investigates Athens and documents the front side of the city, in order to understand not only the structure, the form and the function of each balcony, but also the each apartment behind it. In conclusion, the study discusses the relationship between inhabitation and outdoor space of an apartment in the new residence model. Finally the pandemic situation is examined and the way that living conditions during the confinement changed while public life was temporarily transferred at the balconies of each home.	en
