heal.abstract The purpose of this thesis is the study of the operation of the Industrial Zones of Greece in relation to the Digital Transformation that is taking place today and is expressed through the movement of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The study focuses on the economic impact of the smart applications of the 4th Industrial Revolution (commonly ‘smart’ industry) in the Industrial Zones and Business Parks in the Greek economy. The first part describes in detail the current situation of the Industrial Parks in Greece, with reference to their characteristics, types and definitions both nationally and internationally. At this point, reference is made to the institutional and legislative framework that has been developed for the country’s industrial areas, while a connection is attempted with all these elements of organized location with the issues of the circular economy and industrial symbiosis. The second part analyses the principles of Industry 4.0. Mainly, emphasis is placed on the way in which these technologies are applied in the context of operation of the Industrial Parks. From the study it merged that there is no complete application of digital transformation in the industrial areas of Greece, expect for individual applications. Then, a study of the impact of the smart industry of the Industrial Parks on the GDP, on the production value, on the employment and on the gross fixed capital of the country is carried out through the Input-Output Analysis. The empirical study confirms the positive impact of the Digital Transformation of the Industrial Parks on the country’s economy with a total impact on GDP of 5620.1 mil.€, 5569 mil.€ on the production value, 53800 new jobs and 234.5 mil.€ on gross fixed capital. Finally, the sectoral linkages of the smart industry were studied through the forward and backward indices of dispersion and variability. The main conclusions of the study are completed with presentation of industrial policy proposals to address the existing problems and easy transition of the Industrial Parks of the country to Industry 4.0. en
