heal.abstract This diploma thesis addresses the development and implementation study of a PV Plant at Amorgos Island, Greece. Photovoltaic energy technology was preferred instead of wind energy to avoid major earthworks and further interventions to the surroundings for the construction of access roads up to the wind turbine generators and possible impact on island’s microclimate and Aegean’s migration routes of birds. The PV Plant which is planned to operate after the interconnection of island’s electricity grid to the national grid in 2027, has been properly sized to ensure that the annual energy consumed for the island’s needs is compensated by the PV Plant’s produced energy without taking into consideration any peak loads. PV Plant’s installation area is analyzed and evaluated in terms of environmental, cultural, and social effects and of legislative, licensing, and other constraints. The study describes the sizing and the detailed design of the project, the technical specifications of the equipment used, the required works for the interconnection of the PV Plant to the grid and analyzes project’s construction, operation, and maintenance stages. Equipment’s technical data and site’s meteorological data are used for calculations by proper software which simulates PV Plant’s operation and exports important energy efficiency factors such as annual produced energy, solar power potential, energy losses and performance ratio. Finally, the study outlines project’s investment factors and evaluates its economic sustainability. en
