heal.abstract	Ένα ταξίδι και μια πρακτική άσκηση στη Σρι Λάνκα στις αρχές του 2020 αποτέλεσαν αφορμή για την εκπόνηση αυτής της διπλωματικής εργασίας. Στόχος είναι η ανάδειξη των παραδοσιακών τεχνών της ξυλογλυπτικής και της κλωστοϋφαντουργίας, που απασχολούν μεγάλο μέρος του πληθυσμού της χώρας, αλλά και η ενδυνάμωση των καλλιτεχνών του συγκεκριμένου τομέα. Προτείνεται, λοιπόν, η δημιουργία μίας πειραματικής κοινότητας τεχνών στα νότια παράκτια της χώρας, στην περιοχή Ahangama όπου παρατηρείται μεγαλύτερη κινητικότητα σ ’αυτές τις δραστηριότητες, με όραμα την μελλοντική ανάπτυξη ενός διευρυμένου δικτύου αντίστοιχων πρακτικών. Βασικοί πυλώνες είναι η αναβίωση, η ενίσχυση και η συνύπαρξη, με απώτερο σκοπό την γεφύρωση των παραδοσιακών τεχνών με τη σύγχρονη αγορά και τη δημιουργία ενός τόπου που θα φιλοξενεί τους χειροτέχνες και θα προάγει το έργο τους στην ευρύτερη κοινότητα. Η Σρι Λάνκα είναι μια νησιωτική χώρα νότια της Ινδίας με τροπικό κλίμα και έντονο ανάγλυφο, όπου κυριαρχεί η πλούσια τροπική βλάστηση στο φυσικό τοπίο. Τα κλιματικά δεδομένα που συλλέχθηκαν έπαιξαν καθοριστικό ρόλο στον σχεδιασμό και στην ανάπτυξη ενός δημιουργικού διαλόγου εγγραφής ενός έργου στο περιβάλλον του. Για την καλύτερη διαχείριση του κλίματος τέθηκαν δύο βασικές σχεδιαστικές αρχές: α) οι επικλινείς στέγες και β) η ανύψωση από το έδαφος. Οι επικλινείς στέγες επιλέχτηκαν για προστασία από την βροχή και τον ήλιο, ενώ η ανύψωση από το έδαφος προστατεύει από πλημμύρες ή ερπετά, φέρνει τον επισκέπτη κοντά με την υψηλή βλάστηση του οικοπέδου, ενώ ταυτόχρονα επιτυγχάνεται καλύτερη ψύξη του κτιρίου και αποφεύγεται η καταστροφή των ριζών των δέντρων. Η επιλογή τοπικών υλικών (ξύλο, μπαμπού, φοινικόφυλλα) καθώς και η σύνθεση παραδοσιακών πλέξεων εντείνουν την εναρμόνιση των κατασκευών με την φύση. Οι βασικοί πυρήνες που δομούν την κοινότητα είναι η παραγωγή, η πώληση, η εστίαση και η κατοίκηση, μέσα από το σχηματισμό μιας δημόσιας περιμετρικής πορείας που διατρέχει το ακρωτήρι. Οι δημόσιες χρήσεις τοποθετούνται διαδοχικά σε έναν κεντρικό άξονα, με πρώτο σταθμό την αγορά, δεύτερο τα εργαστήρια, και τρίτο το καφέ-εστιατόριο με τρεις πλατφόρμες θέασης. Σε δευτερεύουσα πορεία ακολουθούν οι κατοικίες των καλλιτεχνών και οι καμπίνες των επισκεπτών. Πρόθεση μας είναι η δημιουργία ενός συνολικού σχεδιασμού και μιας αρχιτεκτονικής γλώσσας, που εκτός από κλιματικά και περιβαλλοντικά στοιχεία, λαμβάνει υπόψη παραδοσιακές μορφές, πολιτιστικά χαρακτηριστικά και λειτουργικές ανάγκες της κοινότητας.	el
heal.abstract	Our source of inspiration for this diploma thesis was our trip in Sri Lanka and our internship there in the beginning of 2020. The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the traditional arts of wood carving and textiles, and to strengthen the motivation of the artists working on that field. A big amount of country’s population is occupied with such activities especially in the South. Our proposal, therefore, is the creation of an experimental art community in the southern coast of the country, in region Ahangama, with the vision to develop a bigger network of such practices in the future. Revival and enhancement of the arts, as well as co-existence and co-living are fundamental words that characterize our community. We create a place that hosts local artists and promotes their work to the broader community, paving the way to the modern market. Sri Lanka is a tropical country surrounded by the Indian Ocean, where wild tropical nature is thriving on the landscape. The microclimatic data we collected were critical in the design procedure and helped us develop a design strategy with certain principles: a)pitched roofs and b)lifting from the ground. The pitched roofs protect from the rain and the sun, while the lifting from the ground protects from floodings or reptiles, brings the visitor closer to the high vegetation of the plot, gives better cooling to the buildings and protects the roots of the trees. The use of local materials (wood, bamboo, palm leaves) as well as the composition of traditional weaving patterns as elements of the buildings bring in harmony the built and the natural environment. The community consists of several ¨islands¨ that represent different functions. These are the workplace-production island, the marketplace, the restaurant and the accommodation islands, which are the stations of a public circular route around the cape. The islands with public function are placed in succession on a central axis across the plot with the marketplace being the first station near the entrance. The craft workshop place is the second in line, followed by the café-restaurant on the hill and three platforms for gazing the view of the ocean. The housing area of the artists and the cabins for the visitors are organised in secondary routes. Our aim is to create a holistic design and architectural language which is conformed not only by the climate and natural surroundings, but also by the traditional forms, the cultural characteristics and the needs of the community.	en
