heal.abstract	Η παρούσα διατριβή ασχολείται με τη μελέτη της πολυπολιτισμικότητας στον αστικό χώρο της Κομοτηνής. Η έννοια της «πολυπολιτισμικότητας» χρησιμοποιείται στην συγκεκριμένη μελέτη ως ένα κοινωνικό δεδομένο για τον αστικό χώρο της Κομοτηνής αφού η μειονοτική παρουσία, η οποία είναι αναγνωρισμένη από τη διεθνή συνθήκη της Λωζάνης, μαρτυρά την ύπαρξη μιας (τουλάχιστον) πολιτισμικής ομάδας με διαφορετική γλώσσα και θρησκεία (δομικά χαρακτηριστικά εθνοπολιτισμικού προσδιορισμού) που διαφοροποιείται από τον υπόλοιπο εθνικό κορμό. Βασική υπόθεση εργασίας αποτελεί η άποψη ότι στην Κομοτηνή, οι διασταυρούμενες κοινωνικές σχέσεις μεταξύ των εθνοπολιτισμικών ομάδων, τα δίκτυα των οποίων έχουν με τον καιρό κατασκευαστεί, παίρνουν χωρική μορφή και καθορίζουν την οργάνωση του αστικού χώρου σε γειτονιές. Υπό αυτό το πρίσμα, η πολυπολιτισμικότητα είναι συνυφασμένη άμεσα με την έννοια της γειτονιάς, με την τελευταία να αποτελεί ιστορικά τον κατεξοχήν γεωγραφικό χώρο εθνοπολιτισμικής έκφρασης, λειτουργώντας ως το χωροκοινωνικό πλαίσιο αναφοράς κάθε εθνοπολιτισμικής ομάδας που κατοικεί στην πόλη. Πολυπολιτισμικότητα, κοινωνικές σχέσεις και γειτονιές διαπλέκονται σε μια χωρική σχέση αλληλεξάρτησης με τη δυνατότητα να επηρεάζουν το δομημένο περιβάλλον και το στρατηγικό σχεδιασμό της Κομοτηνής. Συνδυάζοντας την παραπάνω άποψη με το γεγονός ότι τη δεκαετία του 1990 που κάνει την εμφάνισή της στο δημόσιο λόγο η «πολυπολιτισμικότητα», ως επίσημη πλέον πολιτική για τη διαχείριση της ετερότητας στην πόλη, παρατηρείται μια έξαρση συγκρότησης σωματείων και πολιτιστικών συλλόγων στην περιοχή, η έρευνα πεδίου εστιάζει στις πολιτισμικές πρακτικές και δράσεις που υλοποιούνται στην Κομοτηνή μέσα από τη συγκρότηση των πολιτών σε πολιτιστικές ομάδες (σύλλογοι και σωματεία) και στον τρόπο που οι πρωταγωνιστές αυτής της κίνησης διαπραγματεύονται την ετερότητα του πολιτισμικού τοπίου μέσω συλλογικών αιτημάτων προγραμματικού και πολεοδομικού χαρακτήρα. Κατά τη διαδικασία της διερεύνησης της χωρικής οργάνωσης της πόλης σε γειτονιές, πραγματοποιήθηκαν συνεντεύξεις με πληροφορητές και πληροφορήτριες μέλη συλλόγων/ εθελοντικών οργανώσεων της μειονότητας και της πλειονότητας που δραστηριοποιούνται στην Κομοτηνή, με σκοπό να αναδειχθεί ο πολύπλοκος κοινωνικός ιστός της πόλης και τα ιδιαίτερα κοινωνικά, ιστορικά, πολιτικά και έμφυλα χαρακτηριστικά που συγκροτούν την Κομοτηνή και διαμορφώνουν επί της ουσίας το περιεχόμενο της «πολυπολιτισμικής κοινωνίας».	el
heal.abstract	This PhD thesis refers to the study of multiculturalism in the urban space of Komotini. The term “multiculturalism’’ is used in this specific study as a social fact for the urban space of Komotini since the presence of the minority, is officially recognized by the international Treaty of Lausanne (1923) and testifies to the existence of (at least) one cultural group with a different language and religion; these structural features of ethno-cultural determination, differentiate the minority from the rest of the population. The basic working hypothesis is that, in Komotini, the intersecting social relations which have been established over time among the ethno-cultural groups take spatial form and define the organization of urban space in neighbourhoods. From this perspective, multiculturalism is directly intertwined with the concept of neighbourhood, which historically constitutes a pre-eminent geographical space of ethno-cultural expression acting as the socio-spatial frame of reference of each ethno-cultural group that resides in the city. Multiculturalism, social relations and neighbourhoods are all connected in a spatial relationship of interdependence with the possibility of influencing the built environment and the strategic planning of Komotini. In the 1990’s, “multiculturalism’’ made its appearance in public discourse as an official policy for the management of diversity in the city with a significant increase in the formation of unions and cultural associations. In this context, the field research focuses on cultural practices and actions implemented in Komotini through the formation of citizens in cultural groups (unions and associations) and on the ways in which the protagonists of this movement negotiate the diversity of the cultural landscape through collective demands of programmatic and urban planning nature. The research process, which focuses on the spatial organization of the city in neighbourhoods, includes interviews with minority and majority members of cultural associations and volunteer organisations who are active in Komotini. The aim is to highlight the complexity of the social fabric of the city and the particular social, historical, political and civil characteristics that make up Komotini and essentially shape the content of the multicultural society.	en
