heal.abstract	The aim of the present Diploma Thesis is the investigation of the flood and scour phenomena acting on bridges’ piers, within the riverbed. Specifically, the survey is about the existing Geropotamos Bridge which is located at the north part of the island of Crete, on the prefecture of Rethimno. It constitutes a section of the national motorway V.O.A.K. More extensively, the specific Diploma Thesis presents the geometry of the bridge, the loads, the national regulations, as more information regarding the construction simulation on SAP2000. The insertion of flood as a distributed load, the scour as vertical movement and rotation leads to a new intensive situation. The total response is evaluated with the elastic seismic analysis. The results rate the total construction adequacy for the seismic load assessment and determine the potential reinforcement and repair requirement. Finally, proposals for optimization of the existing construction as the analytical results and the main conclusions of the study are presented.	el
