The purpose of this thesis is to guide organizations towards improving their digital performance and status, to become competitive operating in the modern working environment.
Firstly, the characteristics of the modern working environment are analyzed. On the one hand, the modern working environment is characterized of high complexity and uncertainty, but on the other it offers great opportunities such as the trend of digital transformation and new technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence, which can be utilized by organizations. However, the aforementioned create the need for new ways of working such as hybrid and remote work. These characteristics of the modern working environment require the development of new skills, most importantly the development of adjustability, digital readiness, and innovation capability.
Secondly, the challenge of adopting these skills arises. This happens through human resources management and its functions. The most important strategies for adopting these skills are the upskilling and the reskilling of the employees. Also, of high importance is the management of innovation and innovation capability by the human resources management.
Furthermore, a sample consisted of 831 enterprises is analyzed from a different perspective, the one from adjustability and digital readiness. For this purpose, a new variable is created that splits the sample into four categories and a statistical data processing is conducted to identify the characteristics and the performance of the organizations based on their level of adjustability and digital readiness. This analysis results in great performance for the adjustable and digitally ready organizations, mediocre performance for the organizations that are digitally ready and not adjustable, or adjustable and not digitally ready and significantly low performance for the organization that are neither adjustable nor digitally ready.
Finally, advanced statistical tools are used to identify critical variables that increase adjustability and digital readiness. In this way, a practical guide is offered to the organizations that desire change from one category to another, by increasing either adjustability or digital readiness. Recommendations for further research on this topic are made. |
