heal.abstract Since ancient times, people have had the need to construct underground works, either for the exploitation of minerals or for religious/social reasons. This need grew exponentially with the industrial revolution, where the construction of underground works became necessary both for the further exploitation of mines that had dried up underground and to facilitate the transport of goods and people through tunnels and railway stations. This resulted in the need to understand the properties of rock masses, the aquifer and many other geological properties, and the need for support at any given project. Within the scope of the study, the influence of the tunnel cross-section size on the requirements of direct support is investigated. Two categories of tunnel cross-sections were used for this investigation: the T7 category of the Norwegian guidelines and the 10.5T category prescribed in the Road Design Guidelines (RDG). The simulation of tunnel boring and support with these cross-sections was carried out using the RS2 program, and useful conclusions were drawn in a first phase using the RocSupport program. These 2 cross-sections were analyzed and through a series of simulations for different tunnel depths and rock mass quality, the suitability of the support for each sub-case was checked, based on its adequacy according to the regulations. en
