heal.abstract	Αντικείμενο της διατριβής είναι η επανάχρηση βιομηχανικής κληρονομιάς στην Ευρώπη, με έμφαση στην πρακτική της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας, της Ολλανδίας, της Ισπανίας και της Ελλάδας. Αυτό το πολύπλοκο αλλά και συναρπαστικό θέμα δεν έχει μελετηθεί εις βάθος υπό τις συνθήκες που υπαγορεύει η σύγχρονη εποχή. Στον 21ο αιώνα, η Επανάχρηση Βιομηχανικής Κληρονομιάς καλείται να καταστεί πιο ευέλικτη, πιο βιώσιμη και πιο συμπεριληπτική διαδικασία σε σχέση με το παρελθόν. Επομένως, ζητούμενο αποτελεί μια βελτιωμένη προσέγγιση για την μεταμόρφωση των βιομηχανικών καταλοίπων. Στόχος της διατριβής είναι να διερευνήσει τις δυνατότητες βελτίωσης της πρακτικής Επανάχρησης της Βιομηχανικής Κληρονομιάς προσδιορίζοντας και αναλύοντας τις πτυχές που την επηρεάζουν, υπό το πρίσμα των σύγχρονων θεωρητικών αντιλήψεων διατήρησης, των σημερινών απαιτήσεων του πεδίου της πρακτικής και των αυξανόμενων προκλήσεων του 21ου αιώνα. Αντλώντας στοιχεία τόσο από τη θεωρία όσο και από την πρακτική σε διεθνές επίπεδο, η διδακτορική έρευνα δίνει μια συνολική και πολυεπίπεδη εικόνα του θέματος υπό διερεύνηση. Η Επανάχρηση Βιομηχανικής Κληρονομιάς και οι εμπλεκόμενοι φορείς της εξετάζονται στο πλαίσιο των επιλεγμένων χωρών μέσω της λεπτομερούς ανάλυσης είκοσι περιπτώσεων μελέτης. Ο πρώτος τόμος εισάγει το ερευνητικό θέμα και περιγράφει την προβληματική της διατριβής, αναλύει το θεωρητικό πλαίσιο του εξεταζόμενου ζητήματος, παρουσιάζει την ερευνητική μεθοδολογία και την ακαδημαϊκή ανάλυση και προσφέρει τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας. Στον τόμο 2 παρουσιάζεται η ανάλυση και η αξιολόγηση των είκοσι επιλεγμένων περιπτώσεων μελέτης, μεταξύ των οποίων το Ironbridge στο Shropshire, το Τεχνολογικό και Πολιτιστικό Πάρκο Λαυρίου, το Westergasfabriek στο Άμστερνταμ και η περιοχή 22@ στη Βαρκελώνη. Η διδακτορική έρευνα εκπονήθηκε στην ομάδα Heritage & Architecture, AE+T του πανεπιστημίου TUDelft και στο Εργαστήριο Αστικού Περιβάλλοντος της Σχολής Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου. Το έργο χρηματοδοτήθηκε με υποτροφία από το Ίδρυμα Ωνάση. heal.abstract	This dissertation focuses on Industrial Heritage Reuse practice in Europe, with special emphasis on the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain and Greece. This vastly complex yet fascinating topic has not been studied holistically under the circumstances of the contemporary era. In the 21st century, Industrial Heritage Reuse is required to be more responsive, more sustainable, more inclusive and more value-driven than before. An enhanced approach for the transformation of industrial relics is therefore urgently needed. The aim of this dissertation is to explore the potential of enhancement of the Industrial Heritage Reuse by identifying and analysing its influencing Aspects under the light of the contemporary theoretical conservation concepts, the current demands of the field of practice and the rising challenges of the 21st century context. Drawing upon both theory and practice on an international level, this research gives a holistic and multileveled view on the subject under investigation. Industrial Heritage Reuse and its stakeholders are investigated in the setting of the four selected countries through the detailed analysis of twenty case studies of best practice. Volume 1 introduces the research problem and explains the thesis’ rationale; it presents the research methodology, the academic analysis and it finally offers the research products. Volume 2 presents the analysis and evaluation of the selected case studies, varying from Ironbridge in Shropshire, to the Technological and Cultural Park of Lavrion and from Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam to the 22@ district of Barcelona. The doctoral research was conducted in the Heritage & Architecture group, AE+T, TUDelft and the Urban Environment Laboratory, School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens. The project was funded by a 4-year scholarship by the Onassis Foundation. Further funds were provided by the British School at Athens, the Stichting fonds Catharine van Tussenbroek and the EU Erasmus + programme.	en
