heal.abstract	Η εκμετάλλευση του ορυκτού πλούτου και κυρίως των κοιτασμάτων του χαλκού αποτέλεσε κύριο συντελεστή στη βιομηχανική ανάπτυξη της Κύπρου, ενώ άσκησε επιρροές στην κοινωνία, τον πολιτισμό και την οικονομία, συντελώντας στη διαμόρφωση της ταυτότητας και της ιστορίας της χώρας. Αφετηρία για την επιλογή του θέματος αποτέλεσε η μελέτη γύρω από τη μεταλλευτική βιομηχανία του τόπου, στο πλαίσιο της Διάλεξης “Χώροι Μνήμης: Μεταλλευτικά Τοπία της Κύπρου (Ειρήνη Κωνσταντίνου και Χρίστος Παυλίδης, 2020). Η περιήγηση στους χώρους αυτούς και ιδιαίτερα στο τοπίο του Μιτσερού, το οπτικό ερέθισμα και κυρίως η δύναμη της όσφρησης και συγκεκριμένα των αναθιμιάσεων της Γης, σε συνάρτηση με τη συνεισφορά των Μεταλλείων του στη βιομηχανική δράση, κίνησαν τη σκέψη για περεταίρω εξερεύνηση της δυναμικής του χώρου. Μια αρχέγονη σύνδεση του Τόπου με τη δραστηριότητα που τον καθόρισε, δημιούργησε την ανάγκη προβολής της κληρονομιάς της περιοχής που έχει ξεθωριάσει στο πέρασμα των καιρών, αλλά και της αξιοποίησης της περιβαλλοντικής της αξίας στο Ευρωπαϊκό Οικολογικό Δίκτυο Natura 2000. Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία στοχεύει στην αναβίωση ολόκληρης της περιοχής με νέες λειτουργίες, οι οποίες απορρέουν από τις ιδιαιτερότητες του τόπου, με προϋπόθεση το σεβασμό προς την ιστορία και τα χαρακτηριστικά του. Αυτό επιτυγχάνεται μέσω μιας διαδρομής αφήγησης που στην ουσία συγκεντρώνει τα θραύσματα του παρελθόντος και τα ενοποιεί σε ένα ευρύτερο δίκτυο, ενώ συνδυάζει παράλληλα την επιτόπια παρατήρηση και εξερεύνηση της φύσης και της γεωλογίας, η οποία αντιπροσωπεύει μεγάλο κομμάτι της δομής του νησιού. Η νέα κτηριακή δομή που χωροθετείται αποτελεί μέρος του περιπάτου και συγχωνεύει δύο κύριους άξονες. Αυτόν της Έκθεσης και της Έρευνας που επιχειρεί να μελετήσει, αλλα και να αναδείξει την περιβαλλοντική διάσταση της περιοχής, σε ένα ευρύτερο πλαίσιο συνεργασίας με τοπικούς φορείς.	el
heal.abstract	The exploitation of mineral wealth, especially copper deposits, has been a key factor in the industrial development of Cyprus, exerting influences on its society, culture and economy, thereby contributing to the formation of the country’s identity and history. The initial motivation for the choice of this topic derived from the previous research conducted on the mining industry in the context of the thesis “Places of memory: Mining Landscapes of Cyprus” (Irene Constantinou and Christos Pavlides, 2020). Exploring these areas, an interest was directed towards the landscape of Mitsero, of which the visual and olfactory stimuli, specifically the gases emited from the soil, in conjunction with the contribution of its Mines to the country’s industrial activity, sparked thoughts of further exploring the dynamics of the region. A primordial connection between the place and the activity that defined it created the need to showcase the region’s heritage, which has faded over time, as well as to capitalize its environmental value within the European Ecological Network Natura 2000. This diploma project aims to revitalize the entire area through new functions derived from the spacial peculiarities of the place, while respecting its history and characteristics. This is achieved through a narrative route that essentially gathers fragments of the past and unifies them into a broader network, combining on-site observation and exploration of nature and geology, which represent a significant part of the island’s structure. A new architectural structure is proposed as part of the walkway, that combines two main axes: that of the Exhibition and that of the Research, proviting the means to study and highlight the environmental importance of the area, within a broader framework of collaboration with local bodies.	en
