heal.abstract	Η σχέση μεταξύ της ανθρώπινης υγείας, του σχεδιασμού και του αστικού χώρου είναι πολύπλοκη, πολυδιάστατη και εξελισσόμενη. Οι πόλεις επιδρούν στη σωματική και ψυχική ευεξία των κατοίκων τους και κατ’ επέκταση τη δημόσια υγεία. Ομοίως, το ζητούμενο της υγείας έχει οδηγήσει πολλές στην ιστορία, σε αλλαγές παραδείγματος στην κατανόηση των προκλήσεων και του ρόλου του σχεδιασμού. Τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες, το ίδιο το ανθρώπινο σώμα έχει αλλάξει λόγω παραγόντων όπως η δημογραφική γήρανση και η αύξηση του σωματικού βάρους θέτοντας νέες προκλήσεις για ζητήματα κινητικότητας, προσβασιμότητας, και ισότιμης συμμετοχής στην αστική διαβίωση. Οι αλλαγές αυτές αποτελούν το υπόβαθρο της διατριβής, η οποία διερευνά τις συνδέσεις της υγείας και του χώρου της πόλης, και υποστηρίζει πως απαιτείται μία μετάβαση προς μια πιο ανθρωποκεντρική προσέγγιση. Υπό αυτό το πρίσμα, αναπτύσσει την έννοια της «εργονομίας της πόλης» επιχειρώντας να ενσωματώσει χαρακτηριστικά του εξελισσόμενου ανθρώπινου σώματος σε πρακτικά εργαλεία και συμβάσεις του σχεδιασμού. Τέλος, εξετάζει μέσα από το παράδειγμα της Αθήνας της πανδημίας, πως ένα περιβάλλον μειωμένης κινητικότητας επανακαθορίζει τη σημασία του τοπικού παράγοντα, και ίσως εξηγεί και επιλογές χωροθέτησης στην πόλη.	el
heal.abstract	This Ph.D. thesis aims to explore the intricate interplay between public health and urban planning and design, with a specific emphasis on the spatial aspect. The study employs a multidimensional approach, utilizing mixed methods to address the different scopes of each chapter. The first part of the project involves a comprehensive historical and theoretical analysis on the relationship between health and urban design, highlighting gaps in current knowledge. The second part uses the Covid-19 pandemic as a case study to investigate the connection between health and urban design in 21st-century cities. It critically examines the findings and explores how demographic and social structures, technology, and new ways of living and working are transforming the relationship between inhabitants and spaces, as well as redefining housing. The third part delves into the mechanisms of the human body to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between human physiology and limitations involved in movement within space. This part seeks to create new knowledge and methods in a theoretical manner that add to the existing literature and existing methods of how-to better design walkable cities, in a tangible way. The overarching objective of this thesis is to facilitate cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer between the fields of health and design and make a productive contribution to the planning field. The findings provide a fresh perspective on design issues and contribute to the scientific community's efforts to create more functional, accommodating, inclusive, and thus, healthier cities.	en
