heal.abstract	Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία αφορά την αποκατάσταση και επανάχρηση του σαντουριού ΝΙΕΝ (νοσηλευτικό ίδρυμα εμπορικού ναυτικού) στην Πεντέλη και πιο συγκεκριμένα στα σύνορα των δήμων Μελισσίων και Πεντέλης . Το κτίριο είναι έργο του αρχιτέκτονα Κυπριανού Μπίρη και αποτελεί χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα δημόσιας αρχιτεκτονικής πρόνοιας στην Ελλάδα στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα. Στόχος μας ήταν η μετατροπή του εγκαταλείμενου σανατορίου σε σύγχρονο κέντρο ψυχικής υγείας και δομή φιλοξενίας κακοποιημένων γυναικών και των παιδιών τους. Οι δύο αυτές χρήσεις συστεγάζονται χωρις όμως να περιορίζεται η αυτονομία και η λειτουργικότητα. Δόθηκε ιδιαίτερη προσοχή ώστε αυτή η συνύπαρξη να να είναι ποιοτική και αρμονική καθώς επίσης και να ενθαρρύνετε η κοινωνονικοποιηση και η αποφόρτιση. Το κέντρο ψυχικής υγείας ακολουθεί την λογική του "δημοσίου ψυχολόγου και ψυχιάτρου" ενώ παράλληλα υπάρχουν παροχές και για εναλλακτικές και καλλιτεχνικές μορφές ψυχοθεραπείας. Σίγουρα όμως απευθύνεται σε ασθενείς που δεν χρήζουν εγκλεισμού. Αντίστοιχα η δομή φιλοξενίας κακοποιημένων γυναικών προορίζεται για γυναίκες που έχουν υποστεί ενδοοικογενειακη ή εμφυλη βία και βρίσκονται σε φάση επανένταξης. Σε αυτό το σημείο είναι απαραίτητο να αναφέρουμε ότι η δημιουργία ενός ζεστού, φιλόξενου, ασφαλούς, αξιοπρεπους και υποστηρικτικου περιβάλλοντος αποτέλεσε κύριο άξονα για τις συνθετικές μας επιλογές. Παράλληλα η μελέτη μας τόσο στο εξωτερικό περιβάλλον του κτιρίου όσο και στο εσωτερικό προσπάθησε να σεβαστεί και να εξυπηρετήσει τις οσο περισσότερες ανάγκες και των φιλοξενούμενων και των επισκεπτών. Πιο συγκεκριμένα όμως όσο αφορά τον κτιριακό όγκο σεβόμενοι τον αρχιτεκτονικό χαρακτήρα και την ιστορική του σημασία αποφασίσαμε να διατηρήσουμε τα βασικά μορφολογικά και δομικά στοιχεία του επεμβαίνοντας με διακριτικότητα. Η επανάχρηση πραγματοποιήθηκε με σκοπό να συγκεράσει το παρελθόν με το μέλλον χρησιμοποιώντας μια απαλή αρχιτεκτονική γλώσσα που δεν αλλοιώνει αλλά αναδεικνύει την ταυτότητα του κτιρίου.	el
heal.abstract	This diploma thesis concerns the restoration and reuse of the NIEN sanatorium (Merchant Navy Hospital) in Penteli, specifically on the border between the municipalities of Melissia and Penteli. The building, designed by architect Kyprianos Biris, is a characteristic example of public welfare architecture in Greece in the early 20th century. Our goal was to transform the abandoned sanatorium into a modern mental health center and a shelter for abused women and their children. These two functions coexist within the same facility without compromising their autonomy and functionality. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that this coexistence is both qualitative and harmonious, while also encouraging socialization and emotional relief. The mental health center follows the concept of a "public psychologist and psychiatrist," while also offering provisions for alternative and artistic forms of psychotherapy. It is, however, intended for patients who do not require institutionalization. Similarly, the shelter for abused women is designed for individuals who have experienced domestic or gender-based violence and are in a phase of reintegration. At this point, it is important to note that creating a warm, welcoming, safe, dignified, and supportive environment was a key axis in our design choices. At the same time, our study, both in the building’s exterior surroundings and its interior, aimed to respect and respond to as many needs of the residents and visitors as possible. More specifically, regarding the architectural mass, and with respect for its architectural character and historical significance, we chose to preserve its main morphological and structural elements, intervening with discretion. The reuse was carried out with the intention of bridging the past with the future, using a gentle architectural language that does not distort but rather highlights the building’s identity.	en
