An exact closed-form solution of the governing equations for transverse vibrations of a beamcolumn of stepwise varying cross section, subjected to lateral harmonic loads is presented in this paper. The solution includes the effects of rotatory inertia and shear-deformation. Simple formulas for calculating the dynamic flexibility matrix of the beam-column, its deflections, moments and shearing forces at the ends of each of its segments are established without having to determine the natural frequencies of the beam. However, the latter can be readily determined by numerical solution of the frequency equation. © 1975 Springer-Verlag. |
