heal.abstract	In this paper it is shown that boundary layer type solutions, well known from the Navier-Stokes equations, are not restricted to the fluid-mechanics area but are present in a variety of engineering problems. The above fact is of considerable importance for the behavior of the solution of a large class of engineering problems and for the achievement of computational effective approximations using finite difference rsp. finite element techniques. © 1987 VDI Verlag GmbH.	en
