The production of hydrogen from the direct thermal or catalytic dissociation of hydrogen sulphide is restricted by the equilibrium conversion of hydrogen sulphide in the presence of the products of the reaction. For the calculation of the hydrogen sulphide conversion at equilibrium, an algorithm, which also computes all the concentrations of the components present in the gas system H2S/H2/Si (i = 1,...,8) has been developed, using the available thermodynamic data. Experiments, carried out by means of a tubular reactor and MoS2 as a catalyst in the temperature range of 973-1123 K and pressure range of 1-4 atm, have verified the predicted conversions of the hydrogen sulphide at equilibrium. © 1987. |
