heal.abstract Solid-state polyamidations (SSPs) comprise a well known route for postpolymerizing nylon prepolymers produced in the melt state. In this article, coprecipitation technique for incorporating acid catalysts in nylon salts is examined. Sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and boric acid comprise the catalyst compounds considered, all of well-known catalytic effect in SSP processes. The work is extended to the case of hexamethylenediammonium adipate (HMA) comprising one of the most widely used polyamide monomers. In particular, interest is first oriented to correlate the nature and the quantity of the catalyst employed with typical characteristics of the eventually obtained monomers, mainly precipitation yield as well as catalyst and end-groups content. en
