Dynamic crack-branching was studied according to Det.-criterion of fracture. In this paper the stress field for a non-uniformly propagating crack under mode I deformation was adopted. Predictions concerning both the critical crack velocity and the bifurcation angle was given. According to Det.-criterion, which was developed by the author, the crack propagates in the direction of the maximum value of the determinant of the stress tensor. © 1988. |
