The interfacial grafting between the glassy polystyrene matrix and the rubber-like particle phase (gel phase) of High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is known to be important to the fracture toughness of the material. A simple quantitative model is developed to determine interfacial grafting from the observed shifts between the glass transition temperature of pure matrix polystyrene and three commercial types of HIPS. |
