This paper is concerned with the automatic generation of an optimal finite-element mesh around singularities. This is obtained by using two successive transformations. First a conformal mapping regularizes the shape of the body (i.e. removes the geometrical singularity) and at the same time removes the singularities of stresses. This transformed, regular body is subdivided to a number of four-sided zones. By using isoparametric transformation we generate the mesh of the mapped body. The inverse conformal mapping gives the final best mesh of the initial body presenting a proper concentration of elements around the singular points. Illustrative examples prove the effectiveness of the method. © 1988. |
