In this paper the influence of geometry of edge-blunt-notched plates on crack propagation under mixed mode loading conditions is studied. The crack extension angle and the critical fracture stress are determined for notches with finite notch tip radii and for various angles of loading and for various ratios of crack length to specimen's width. The Det.-criterion, developed by the first author, is used. According to the Det.-criterion the crack propagates in the direction of the maximum value of the determinant of the stress tensor. The Det.-criterion is simpler and more accurate than the other fracture criteria up to now. © 1988. |
