The dynamic stress intensity factor (SIF) for propagating cracks under constant velocity is evaluated by adapting a four-term expansion of the complex potential instead of the singular-term one. Then, the proposed approach is suitable for large initial curves (LIC), which may incorporate, besides the main singularity, other non-linear phenomena. Dynamic phenomena create always smaller caustics than their static counterparts, may correspond to brittle materials with smaller initial curves. Therefore, the use of this method results in an increase in accuracy by a better approximation derived from the four-term expansion of the stress function. The method provides good flexibility, suitable for dynamic problems and much higher accuracy than the one-term solution. © 1989. |
