heal.abstract	A study was undertaken to assess the suitability of wastes from marble quarries of the Drama-Kavalla-Thasos area, Greece, as a source for the production of high-quality carbonate fillers. Apart from the financial benefits, their use would contribute considerably to the solution of environmental problems associated with the disposal of waste at one of the quarries, which is in an area of great scenic beauty. An approach is also presented for the evaluation of the factors that determine the suitability of a material as a paint filler. © The Institution of Mining and Metallurgy 1996.	en
