Abstract:
The subject of this project is dealing with the relationship between the Turia river and the city of Valencia, from the beginning of its establishment nearby the River until today, that the river is no longer a water element, but "the green lung "of the city. This relationship has never been easy and painless for the residents of Valencia, on the contrary many painful incidents were included. But not only the bad incidents characterized the relationship between the city and the river. The river kept its dual character which over the years formed the perception of the inhabitants about it, a perception on which was finally based the ultimate modern reinterpretation of the riverbed.
In the present study is analyzed the relationship between the city and the sea as well, but is basically emphasized on the relationship between the city and the river, on its importance perceived through the historical cartography of the city, poetry, activities developed around and in the river .
The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive study of the historical, social and morphological evolution of the River Turia in relation with the city of Valencia and its direct participation in the new urban landscapes.
