heal.abstract	Στην εν λόγω εργασία, πραγματευόμαστε το ζήτημα της κάθετης πόλης, όπως έχει αρχίσει να σχηματίζεται τον 21ο αιώνα θέτοντας το σε άμεση σχέση με τη θεωρία και το έργο του αρχιτέκτονα Paolo Soleri(1919-2013). Η κάθετη πόλη ως περιγραφή, θεωρητικά, μπορεί και εσωκλείει όλες τις αστικές δομές που κυριαρχούνται από μια κάθετη μορφολογία. Ωστόσο, η ερεύνα μας προσανατολίζεται στη διερεύνηση εκείνων των τρισδιάστατων δομών που μπορούν να λειτουργήσουν ως βάση, για μια νέα σχέση μεταξύ αρχιτεκτονικής, οικολογίας και ανθρώπου. Επιδίωξη μας λοιπόν, δεν αποτελεί η άνευ όρων διερεύνηση της κάθετης μορφολογίας, αλλά η αναζήτηση εκείνων των χαρακτηριστικών που θα οδηγήσουν στην αναγωγή της καθ’ ύψος ανάπτυξης σε πρότυπη λύση για τους ανθρώπινους οικισμούς του παρόντος και μέλλοντος. Ως συνέπεια, θέτουμε την κάθετη πόλη καθ’ εικόνα της «Arcology», δηλαδή μιας ανεπτυγμένης καθ’ ύψος μέγα- κατασκευής ικανής να φέρει το σύνολο μιας πόλης μέσα σε συνθήκες υψηλής αστικής πύκνωσης και βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης. Όσον αφορά λοιπόν την έρευνά μας, επιχειρούμε μέσω της θεωρίας του Soleri τον επαναπροσδιορισμό του όρου «κάθετη πόλη» και την υπαγωγή του σε νέα εννοιολογικά πλαίσια. Η σύνδεση του με τις «Arcologies» οδηγεί στον ορισμό της «κάθετης πόλης» ως συμπαγούς κατακόρυφης δομής, ικανής να περιέχει το σύνολο των ιδιοτήτων και λειτουργιών μιας πόλης. Ως αποτέλεσμα αποστασιοποιείται από την εν γένει περιγραφή της κάθετης μορφολογίας, δημιουργώντας παράλληλα εννοιολογικές συγγένειες με θεωρίες που σχετίζονται με την «compact city» και τις μέγα- κατασκευές. Η έρευνα μας για την «κάθετη πόλη», αποσκοπεί στη διερεύνηση του βαθμού που μπορεί το συγκεκριμένο μοντέλο κατοίκησης να αποτελέσει το μέλλον των ανθρώπινων οικισμών. Κατά πόσο δηλαδή, είναι ικανό να διαφοροποιηθεί από τα σύγχρονα παραδείγματα της καθ’ ύψος ανάπτυξης και να αναχθεί σε λύση για τα ζητήματα βιωσιμότητας και διάρθρωσης των σημερινών πόλεων.	el
heal.abstract	In this thesis, we are dealing with the issue of Vertical City, as it has been shaped in the 21st century by relating it directly with the theory of the architect Paolo Soleri(1919-2013). The Vertical City as a description, theoretically, encloses cities or structures dominated by a vertical morphology. However, our research is directed to the exploration of those three-dimensional structures that can act as the basis for a new relationship between architecture, ecology, and man. Therefore, our goal is not an unconditional investigation of the vertical morphology, but the search for those characteristics which would turn the high-rise living to an iconic model for the human settlements of present and future. As a result, we set the Vertical City as an image of Arcology, ie a high-rise megastructure capable of baring the whole of a city under conditions of high urban densification and sustainable growth. So, regarding our research, we attempt through the theory of Soleri the redefinition of the term “Vertical City”, and its inclusion into new conceptual purviews. Therefore, its connection to the Arcologies leads to the definition of "Vertical City" as a solid vertical structure capable of containing all the properties and functions of a city. As a result, the “Vertical City” dissociates from being a general description of the vertical morphology, and starts creating conceptual affinities with the theories related to the concept of the “compact city” and megastructures. In conclusion, our final aim concerning our research on “Vertical City”, is to explore the extent to which this habitation model can be the future of human settlements. Whether, it is able to differentiate itself from the contemporary examples of high- rise development and becoming a solution to the structural and sustainability issues of current cities.	en
