heal.abstract	Στόχος της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι μελέτη της υπάρχουσας κατάστασης και η πρόταση αποκατάστασης και επανάχρησης της βιομηχανικής αποθήκης χαρουπιών της Συνεργατικής Ένωσης Χαρουποπαραγωγών [ΣΕΔΧ], με σκοπό να στεγάσει το Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης. Το κτήριο, έργο του Φοίβου Πολυδωρίδη, είναι ένα από τα πιο αξιόλογα του κυπριακού μοντερνισμού, τόσο στην περιοχή μεταξύ Παλιού και Νέου Λιμανιού Λεμεσού, όσο και σε ολόκληρη την Κύπρο. Η παραβολοειδής μορφή του και ο μεγάλος, ενιαίος, εσωτερικός χώρος, ο οποίος χαρακτηρίζεται από το επαναλαμβανόμενο μοτίβο των τόξων, προκαλεί τις εντυπώσεις τόσο στους περαστικούς, όσο και στους χρήστες του χώρου. Η επιλογή να στεγαστεί στο συγκεκριμένο κτήριο Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης έγινε για διάφορους λόγους. Θεωρήθηκε ότι ένα εμβληματικό κτήριο του ‘60, αντιπροσωπευτικό της μοντέρνας κυπριακής αρχιτεκτονικής, είναι το πλέον κατάλληλο για να στεγάσει συλλογές της μοντέρνας και σύγχρονης καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας. Επιπλέον ένα κτήριο-τοπόσημο με δημόσια χρήση μπορεί να προσελκύσει επισκέπτες και να διαμορφώσει ένα νέο χαρακτήρα στην ευρύτερη περιοχή, αφού η πόλη δεν έχει σήμερα μουσείο τέχνης, ούτε κάποια διακριτή “καλλιτεχνική περιοχή”. Στα πλαίσια της εργασίας γίνονται κάποιες “στρατηγικές” προτάσεις για τη διαμόρφωση της ευρύτερης περιοχής. Η μελέτη επικεντρώνεται, όμως, στην αποτύπωση της κατάστασης και της παθολογίας του υπάρχοντος κτηρίου και στην πρόταση επανάχρησης του. Με βάση το κτηριολογικό πρόγραμμα που δημιουργήθηκε, θεωρήθηκε αναγκαίος ο σχεδιασμός ενός νέου κτηρίου, σε σύνδεση με το υφιστάμενο, για να καλυφθούν οι ανάγκες του μουσείου. Το υφιστάμενο κτήριο επιλέγεται να στεγάσει κατεξοχήν εκθεσιακούς χώρους, ενώ στο νέο στεγάζονται οι υπόλοιποι χώροι του μουσείου, η υποδοχή με το πωλητήριο, το αμφιθέατρο με το foyer, βιβλιοθήκη τέχνης, η διοίκηση, καφέ-εστιατόριο, καθώς και gallery πώλησης έργων τέχνης των ντόπιων καλλιτεχνών. Τα δύο κτήρια συνδέονται μεταξύ τους με έναν όγκο-γέφυρα στο επίπεδο του ορόφου.	el
heal.abstract	This diploma thesis aims to study the current form and structural condition of a modern industrial warehouse and then propose its restoration and re-use as a Museum of Contemporary art. The warehouse, design by the architect Fivos Polydorides, is one of the most remarkable modern buildings in Cyprus, located between the Old and New Harbor in Limassol. The paraboloid form of the building as well as the large united interior space, which is characterized by the arcs motif, impresses both the public but also its residents. That building was chosen to house the Museum of Contemporary Art in for several reasons. First, a modern, emblematic building, created in the ‘60s, is the most suitable place to house collections of modern and contemporary art, created by Cypriots artists. Furthermore, a public landmark could attract visitors and change the whole area to an artistic area, as there is no art museum in the city. This thesis proposes general plans about the redesign of the surrounding area. However, the main study is about the current construction of the building, the analysis of damages and suggestions for re-use and restoration. The design of a new building is considered necessary in order to house the requisite rooms of the museum. The exhibitions are placed in the existing building, whereas in the new building will host rooms, such as the reception, the museum shop, the auditorium, the foyer, the art library, the administrative office, the café-restaurant and a gallery, where art works are being sold. The two buildings are connected by a closed bridge at the first floor level.	en
