This study provides basic guidelines for the regeneration of the area that houses the ammunition factory PYR.KAL. since 1874. The area under study lies in approximately 180 acres of the United Municipality of Daphne and Hymettus. Our main objective is to create a green park in order for it to be given to the residents of the local community as well as the rest of Athens.
Hence it is proposed: the conservation and enhancement of valuable architectural elements inside the plant as well as the creation of new outdoor facilities to accommodate cultural activities, entertainment and sports. The park's design target is to create an ecosystem in the heart of the city that will improve people's quality of life and provide outlets for recreation and social interaction.
The first chapter is an introduction to the subject where the purpose of the study is being stated for the first time. The next chapter is the report of historical data about Daphne and Hymettus and their urban development in the passage of years. The current economic activity of both Municipalities is being reported and analyzed and their main green spaces are counted down. The third chapter refers to the scheduled and/or the already completed planning of the Municipality. The fourth chapter is an extensive reference to the historical data of PYR.KAL. as well as a presentation of the industry's current state and its affect to the local community. The fifth chapter presents the roles of the participants in the pursue of PYR.KAL. while in the next chapter the basic guidelines for a regeneration solution are being proposed. Finally in the seventh chapter, we record the conclusions of the investigation.
