Abstract

Το δώμα είναι το νέο έδαφος προς οικειοποίηση, όχι απαραίτητα όμως υπό τη μορφή προσθήκης κι’ άλλων ορόφων, αλλά με την έννοια της δημιουργίας καταστάσεων και ανθρωπίνων δραστηριοτήτων. Σύμφωνα με τον Π. Τουρνικιώτη η σημασία του δώματος περιλαμβάνει αυτό που καλούμε ανάταση, άνοιγμα, ανάδυση, περιλαμβάνει οτιδήποτε βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στη γη και στον ουρανό. Το κυρίαρχο θέμα της ερευνητικής διαδικασίας αφορά στη πόλη της Αθήνας, η οποία κατά τη διάρκεια του περασμένου αιώνα μετατράπηκε σε σύνολα πολυκατοικιών, στα οποία συγκεντρώνεται ο μισός πληθυσμός της χώρας. Ο τύπος της πολυκατοικίας έχει απορροφήσει όλο το δημόσιο χώρο της πόλης και τον έχει κατακερματίσει σε χιλιάδες μικροιδιοκτησίες. Από τα παραπάνω οδηγούμαστε στο εξής ερώτημα: πως γίνεται ενώ δεν υπάρχουν επαρκείς ελεύθεροι χώροι, μια μεγάλη επιφάνεια του δομημένου περιβάλλοντος να παραμένει ανεκμετάλλευτη! Και φυσικά μιλάμε για τα δώματα των πολυκατοικιών. Στο κείμενο της διάλεξης γίνετε ανάλυση των βασικών χαρακτηριστικών που συνθέτουν την εικόνα της Αθήνας με στόχο να απαντηθούν κάποια από τα παραπάνω ερωτήματα. Χαρακτηριστικά όπως το ‘συνεχές χαλί’ που σχηματίζουν τα δώματα των πολυκατοικιών, η μικρή κλίμακα των οικοδομικών τετραγώνων, ο συνεχής και ζωντανός δημόσιος χώρος μέσα και έξω από την Πολυκατοικία, η θέα πάνω από το αστικό τοπίο η άναρχη δόμηση κ.α.

Rooftop is a new ground for appropriation, not necessarily by the addition of new storeys, but by the creation of situations and human activities. According to P. Tournikiotis, the meaning of the rooftop consists of what is called anatasis , emergence, and generally whatever lays between earth and sky. The dominant issues of the researching procedure concerns the city of Athens, which during the previous century was transformed into a group of blocks of flats (polykatoikia) where half of the population of the country was accumulated. The type of the block has absorbed the public space of the city and has fragmented it into thousands of properties. Taking everything into consideration we are driven to the following question: despite the absence of sufficient free spaces, why does a big surface of the built environment remain unused? Of course it is the rooftops of the blocks that we are talking about. In the text discussed the basic characteristics that compose the picture of Athens, in order to find an answer for some of the aforementioned questions. Characteristics such as the “continuous carpet” that is composed by the rooftops of the blocks of flats, the small scale of the blocks, the continuous public space both inside and outside of the Block of flats, the view over the urban landscape, the anarchy etc.
