Μελέτη ανιχνευτή Micromegas TPC και ανακατασκευή των τροχιών παρουσία μαγνητικού πεδίου

Abstract

Το περιεχόμενο της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας μπορεί να χω- ριστεί σε δύο θεματικές ενότητες, τη μελέτη του ανιχνευτή Micromegas και την ανακατασκευή τροχιών παρουσία ή μη μαγνητικού πεδίου. Για πληρέστερη προσέγγιση του πρώτου σκέλους, γίνεται αναφορά στην αλληλεπίδραση διαφόρων ακτινοβολιών με την ύλη καθώς και στις βασικές αρχές λειτουργίας των ανιχνευτών αερίου. Στη συνέχεια, παρατίθενται τα αποτέλεσματα των μετρήσεων που έλαβαν χώρα στο εργαστήριο (Εργαστήριο Λήψης, Επεξεργασίας και Ανάλυσης δεδομένων- Ε.Λ.Ε.Α., Ινστιτούτο Πυρηνικής και Σωματιδιακής Φυσικής, Ε.Κ.Ε.Φ.Ε. Δημόκριτος) για τη μελέτη των ιδιοτήτων του ανιχνευτή Micromegas. Η δεύτερη θεματική ενότητα προβλέπει την ανάπτυξη και την ανα- λυτική περιγραφή λογισμικών για την ανακατασκευή ευθείας (απουσία μαγνητικού πεδίου, Παράρτημα Α) και ελικοειδούς (παρουσία μαγνη- τικού πεδίου, Παράρτημα Β) τροχιάς στον τρισδιάστατο χώρο

This master thesis is divided in two sections; a study of the Micromegas detector and the trajectories reconstruction in the presence or not of a magnetic field. In the first two chapters, there’s a thorough theoretical approach including references on the interaction of different types of radiation with matter and on gaseous detectors basic concepts. Details of the study of the Micromegas detector are described in Chapter 3. This includes description of the set up and the measurement techniques which took place in the laboratory (Data Acquisition, Monitoring and Analysis Laboratory, Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics I.N.P., N.C.S.R Democritos) along with the relevant results. The second section is devoted to the development of algorithms for the reconstruction of straight line (in absence of a magnetic field) and helix (in presence of a magnetic field) trajectories in three dimensions. The thesis will finish with a synopsis included conclusions and outlook. Additionally, in the appendixes can be found a detailed description of each algorithm (Appendix Α: linear trajectories, Appendix B: helix trajectories).
