This diploma thesis deals with image soni cation and addresses the most common problems found in the eld which are dealing with the soni cation of shape, color and texture. While most approaches are based on user interaction, we have achieved to establish a one-toone relationship between the image and the soni ed result. By using perceptually meaningful mappings, the properties of an image are directly re ected to the audio domain in a very predictable way. If the task is to convey information, the listener can draw conclusions about the image by decoding the soni ed result. Otherwise, using image soni cation as a tool to aid sound design, can yield many interesting audio results that are hard to achieve by using only the existing audio based techniques.
