The Cycladic roots will forever mark the artistic inspiration of Gaitis. In regards John Gaitis the life and works, his work and his time, his artistic career and his artistic language, we must take into account the generation that reach manhood through the resistance to the passage of the Metaxas dictatorship possession and as civil in Greece. The 20th century notes the shift to the new political, social and artistic reality. In his work, the Gaitis from the early years, is conscious of the constant shifting boundaries between the traditional processes, the established knowledge and traditional categories of art. Throughout the work a continuous shift of painting to sculpture, design to writing, architecture, surveying for the geometry of the set design for the event, printmaking to multiple, sculpture to installations and construction. Naturally, the war and occupation remove dilemmas. His work Gaitis clearly raises the question of identity, and raises issues concerning the phenomenon of culture. A culture that is filtered through the Greek daily life, but actually relates to Man. This is mainly for minor tradition of everyday life, which is traditionally the subject, for the event, where <event determines a situation of utterance, a celebration, an etiquette host>, which combined, however, the work of Gaitis effectively as proves successful subversiveness governing this combination, with the major culture, ie the culture-monument here relates to the lived history and culture lived. The coexistence of these two aspects of the culture seems to negate all laws ironically plausibility, while not actually do other than to visualize the way in which one says things and how they do so, how one experiences life experience through contemporary popular culture.
